North Wales Clinic 21st-22nd May 2022

Kindly penned by Gwyn Morris

The BATWK North Wales Clinic was held in the Stunning Ogwen Valey hosted by Mike Jones and Hywel Davies.

The day started with a brief group chat lead by Adam to find out what everybody wanted to get from the day. There was a real mix of handlers and dogs. There were even a couple of Flyball handlers who came to spectate and see the Kelpies in their natural environment. They even had a go working Kelpie on sheep.

We started working the dogs in the sheep pens where Adam was able to share his knowledge and his interesting technique of using sheep up against the fence to put side commands on the dogs. He also shared a couple of techniques of ensuring your dog is listening, and respecting you. Getting recall on dogs was also briefly touched upon.

Lunch time the rain came so we moved in to the stone shepherds hut for shelter. We had a warm Welsh welcome from Mike’s Family. BBQ and a wonderful spread of savoury snacks and loads of cake!

The rain stopped and out we went to the training paddocks, which was an opportunity to work on outruns and sheep driving.

Great day with great people.
